Basket Hilts

All hilts are SCA legal, no bars spaced more than 3/4″ – 7/8″ apart.

Hilts vary in size, the “Ring Style” is largest, the “Heart Style” is medium and the “Feral Style” is smallest.

All styles come in large, medium, and small.

The Rattan mounting rings are available in 1 1/2″ round or 1″ x 1 1/2″ elliptical (see picture)

Feral Style

 

 

 

“The Feral-style basket hilt is just a small modification of one of Eric’s standard baskets. I asked him to make the rings to hold the rattan oval-shaped rather than round. The oval gives a shaved handle a tighter fit and allows the hose-clamps to stay on longer. The oval ring locks the blade in place so that it cannot turn in the basket as a round ring may allow it to do. This reduces the chances of hitting one’s opponent flat. The improved control of the blade allows for smoother combinations and better wrist control of the angles of one’s blow. All of my squires and many of my former squires use them also, as well as a number of other Northern Army thugs. I love these hilts and use them on all my swords.”
